At the age of 8, Joanna Elyse Ransdell discovered music through piano.
She was classically trained until the age of 13, when her music teacher recommend that she no longer take lessons, since she refused to learn the classical music she was assigned.
Instead of finding her muse in classical compositions, Joanna drew inspiration from popular musicians. The influence of Tori Amos, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Ani DiFranco are apparent. Joanna has carefully crafted a unique style of piano playing that serves as the perfect counterpart to her vivid lyrics.
With eccentric piano melodies and sultry, ethereal vocals, Joanna's songs bring listeners into a world filled with emotion and vulnerability.
Joanna will be performing with Phil Boos (guitar/bass) and Dylan Miller (drums). Her set starts at 4pm on the Main Stage.
Her debut album, Open Fire, was released on bandcamp earlier this year.

Her new project, BEACH, is an upbeat show that intertwines her electric violin with feminist politics and involves an Alligator who triggers dance-y beats. BEACH makes hopeful, sometimes funny and poetically serious dance-y rock. Their first album, In Us We Trust, was released in 2013 on B*tch’s own label, Short Story Records.
