Ferndale Pride 2017 adds sober space, more events and expands children’s area
FERNDALE – More vendors and performers and more related events are planned as Ferndale Pride
returns for its seventh year Saturday, June 3.
The annual family friendly street fair draws thousands of members of the LGBTQA community to celebrate diversity and unity.
More than 100 vendors, as well as bands, disc jockeys and other performers, will converge on downtown Ferndale for the street fair. The festival footprint includes West Nine Mile Road between Woodward
Avenue and Planavon Street, as well as portions of Allen Street and West Troy Street. Also, 13 related events are planned before, during and after Ferndale Pride this year.
The expanded children’s area, sponsored by Blue Care Network of Michigan and Candle Wick Shoppe in Ferndale, will feature a retro games area. The first 500 kids will be able to create wands. A sober space sponsored by Ferndale-based Coventry Creations is an area designated to allow adults to engage in activities in an alcohol-free atmosphere. Activities will feature tarot card reading by Coventry Creations, games of corn hole, a giant jenga game and coloring activities.
Proceeds from Ferndale Pride benefit Affirmations, Ferndale Community Foundation, Gender Identity Network, Matrix Human Services MAC Health and Transgender Michigan.
