You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Aug. 28, 2017 Ferndale​ ​Pride​ ​sets​ ​record​ ​with​ ​$25,000​ ​in​ ​grants​ ​to​ ​local​ ​LGBTQ​ ​charities FERNDALE, Mich. – Ferndale Pride distributed $25,000 in grants – the most funding it ever has distributed in a single year – to five local LGBTQ charities Monday, Aug. 28, at the Ferndale City Council meeting. The Ferndale Community Foundation, Ferndale Pride’s sponsoring organization, received a $13,000 grant.These four charities each received $3,000 grants:● Affirmations● Gender-Identity Network Alliance● Matrix Human Services MAC Health● Transgender Michigan Since its establishment in 2011, Ferndale Pride, which presents an annual LGBTQ pride street fair in downtown Ferndale and related events, has distributed more than $100,000 in unrestricted grants to local charities. This year’s festival was Saturday, June 3. “We are grateful for all of our festival sponsors and vendors, as well as the businesses and individuals who support our fundraisers throughout the year,” said Julia Music, Ferndale Pride chair. “Their generosity allows us to provide a festival with no admission fee for attendees and to give back each year through these grants to local charities that better the lives of LGBTQ people.” Music credited Andrew Shankles, fundraising chair, with helping Ferndale Pride to donate a record amount to charities this year. “He really exceeded our expectations in his volunteer role,” Music said. “He organized record-breaking fundraisers that really brought the community out to give.” The 2018 Ferndale Pride street fair will be Saturday, June 2. With almost twenty years of experience, DJ Dav is a true multi-genre artist. After holding residences in Lansing, MI, Grand Rapids, MI, and Park City, UT, DJ Dav has found himself back in the Detroit area. Detroit has heavily influenced his music, as his sets quickly became more technical and hard hitting. In 2014, DJ Dav was asked to join the D3EP Radio Network, a house music online radio station that showcases mixes 24 hours a day from DJs around the world. Since its inception, DJ Dav has posted over 100 mixes! In 2015, he became part of City Air Detroit Crew, which throws house/techno parties with some of Detroit's biggest names. Rosie O' Grady's first Wednesday resident DJ for over three years, DJ Dav is excited to be returning to Ferndale Pride! Mae James is a true Detroiter that brings the same grit, strength, and spirit of the city she loves. Most easily recognized for her powerful contralto vocals, Mae infuses wit, heart, and infectious energy into every performance. Her diverse talents have placed her in the semi finals of the television show, "The Voice", twice and earned her wins at a multitude of competitions. With 15 years of experience entertaining the LGBTQ community on stages at GiGi's, Rainbow Room, Spiral, Rosie O' Grady's, Triangle, and Menjo's, Mae has honed her skills in engaging an audience at every show. An active LGBTQ rights advocate and feminist, she hopes her music can break the stereotypes posed upon the LGBTQ community and women. Accompanying Mae James for her closing set is DJ Frisk. Frisk has been spinning on the LGBTQ scene for almost a decade, and her unique mixing style and personality have kept people dancing for years. Formed in 2011, Players Club consists of Austin Rogers and Preston Austermann. Their dynamic duo has performed and held residencies in several premier dance venues in and around Detroit, including The Grasshopper Underground and Exodos Lounge. In 2014, the duo co-founded City Air Detroit, a promotion company that has been producing high quality events since its inception. Featuring versatile styles, the duo has worked to bring listeners diverse sounds, ranging from tech house to ghetto tech. Octavia, aka Beth Dzierwa, is a Michigan native with a knack for mixing records. A typical day for Beth is simple: Music. Work. Education. Promoting. Music. Her desire to become a DJ was triggered by watching Magda spin at TV Lounge years ago. Octavia grew up listening to Allan Ester on the "After School Groove House Party". Her first gig was at the Women's Entertainment, a women's queer dance party in 2014. In 2016, she performed at the Hamtramck Music Festival for the Seraphine Collective. She has mixed records at Detroit Threads, Urban Bean, Marble Bar, and The Detroit Art Gallery of Windsor. Beth feels that all you need to be successful in life is to put in the time and patience to achieve your goals. She believes the challenges that she has encountered have created the fierce and indepedent artist she is today.
